When Chef Darshan Munidasa of Culinary Journeys with Darshan decided to bring his renowned Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant, Ministry of Crab, to Singapore, ASDA was appointed as the design firm of choice. To ensure the Singapore location truly embodied the essence of Ministry of Crab, Chef Darshan flew Architect Alessandro to Colombo, the birthplace of MOC. His vision was to immerse Alessandro in the restaurant’s unique design DNA, capturing the spirit and atmosphere that made the original so iconic.

A rustic-chic dream. The interior design of Ministry of Crab Singapore blends rustic, industrial, and contemporary elements with a fusion of Japanese and Sri Lankan influences, complemented by tropical flair.

From the outside, you can catch a quick glimpse of the partitioned dining area, where bamboo screens set the tone for a relaxed, semi-private dining experience. The warm, inviting ambiance is created through earthy tones, handcrafted Colombo cement tiles, recycled wood pallets at the kitchen counter, contemporary bronze pendant lights, and tall flower vases with birds of paradise, adding the perfect touch of tropical flair. As you dig into those delicious crustaceans, allow yourselves to be mesmerized by the cooking action in the open-fire kitchen, where live crabs are prepped right in front of you. These elements come together to create an atmosphere that is both cozy and upscale.
